What is the "National Strategy of AM"?

To cater next generation digital manufacturing and mitigate immediate disabilities of local industries the Govt. of India released “National Strategy on Additive Manufacturing” on 24th February 2022.

It is a strategy to promote all the verticals of the AM sector, including machines, materials, software and designs to leverage the untapped opportunities in this emerging technology that will unfold in the near future.

Why "National Strategy of AM"?

AM has immense potential to revolutionize India’s manufacturing and industrial production landscape. With the release of the Strategy, innovation and R&D ecosystem will be encouraged to develop Additive Manufacturing grade materials, 3D Printer machines and printed indigenous products for vast domestic and international market in various sectors including electronics, photonics, medical device, agro and food processing etc.

Importance of National Strategy of AM

The National Strategy on Additive Mfg. will aim to create a conducive ecosystem for design, development and deployment of AM technologies. It will promote local manufacturers to seamlessly adopt this emerging technology. It will bring together industry, academia, Government and user organizations on a single platform for information exchange ensuring India optimises the benefits from the commercialization of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies.

Aim & Objectives

  • Position India as a global hub for AM research, development and deployment.
  • Ensure creation of a sustainable ecosystem through nurturing domestic AM industries.
  • Promote AM transformation and reduce relying on import by developing local tech.
  • Promote ease of adoption of AM in India.
  • Establish a "National Centre on AM" and create an innovation roadmap for AM technologies.

Conclusion

India has a potential to create its dominance and leadership role in all the verticals of AM technology.

This Strategy aspires to achieve 5% of Global AM market share and thereto add nearly $1Bn to the GDP of India by 2025.

R&D ecosystem, engaging academia and industry participations would be important for realizing the fruits of the emerging technology - Additive Manufacturing.
